MPSC scam: Draft charges likely to be filed on Sep 12

Mumbai, Sep 9 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) is likely to file on September 12 the draft charges against 29 accused in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination scam of 2002.

ACB sources said the process of preparing draft charges was in progress and these might be placed before special court Judge A Patole on Wednesday.

The ACB had also recommended names of two senior advocates for appointment as special public prosecutor in the case.

The MPSC examination scam was unearthed on June 29, 2002. The answer sheets of 380 candidates, who had appeared for the MPSC examinations, were found replaced.

Among the accused in the case are former MPSC chairman Dr S D Karnik, former MPSC acting chairman P D Wani, suspended Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr Baban Shivram Kadam, suspended Mantralaya assistant Eknath Narayan Vejre, and Avinash Tukaram Sanas who was the private secretary of the then Minister of Social Welfare. All of them are currently out on bail.
