Jaiswal reiterates resolve against militancy
Kanpur, Sep 9 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal today said the insurgency-hit Karbi Anglong district in Assam had been divided into two parts for better policing.
''After the district witnessed mass-massacre of Hindi-speaking people, the central government had suggested that Karbi Anglong be divided into three parts for effective security management against the insurgents,'' Mr Jaiswal told UNI here.
However, the Assam government partially acted upon the suggestion and divided the district into two parts, he informed.
Mr Jaiswal said Karbi Anglong was almost two-and-a-half times the geographical area of Nagaland.
Each of the two administrative parts of the districts have six and 12 police stations respectively, he said.
