Hip replacement surgery performed in Surat

Surat, Sep 9 (UNI) A private hospital here today performed an 'Avascular Necrosis' or the hip replacement surgery for the first time.

The surgery, performed by the renowned doctors Dr Rajiv Raj Choudhary and Dr Dayanidhi Desai, was conducted under the guidance of South Gujarat Orthopaedic Association and international faculty like Dr David Sochart from Manchester. The required technologies and the scientific tools for the surgery have been introduced in India recently.

The treatment normally costs Rs 1,50,000 but it could now be performed at Rs 40,000 and 70,000.

Normally, hip problems are seen in the Indians and Asians due to 'avascular necrosis', which is caused due to alcohol consumption and overuse of steroids.

Dr Choudhary said ''The large head metal provides excellent functional restoration of lifestyle activities like tracking and mountaineering in addition to sitting crossed legged. Unlike routine hip replacement surgery, it will help young patients to achieve absolutely normal lifestyle.'' The disease is normally found in old persons but now youngsters are also affected by it, he added.
