Flyover collapse: 15 feared dead, 25 injured
Hyderabad, Sep 9 (UNI) At least 15 people were feared dead and 25 injured, when a portion of a flyover, which was under construction, collapsed at Panjagutta Cross Roads, trapping at least 25 cars tonight.
After a heavy downpour for about three hours, a portion of the nearly 800-metre flyover collapsed from almost 20-feet high, trapping at least 25 cars in the congested area in the midst of shopping malls and showrooms, police said.
The injured were admitted to Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hospital, less than 300 m away from the spot and other hospitals in the vicinity.
Rescuers were having a tough time removing the debris. Efforts were on to look for survivors trapped under the debris of concrete and steel.
A heavy posse of police personnel were moved to the spot in an attempt to regulate traffic and ensure quick rescue operations.
