UN mobilises extra 6 mln dollars for flood-hit Bangladesh
DHAKA, Sep 8 (Reuters) The United Nations has mobilised an additional 6 million dollars to help victims of this year's deadly monsoon floods, a UN statement said today.
With this fund the UN assistance to the flood-hit people will rise to 17 million dollars, as the world body has already disbursed million since the floods started in early July.
The assistance will be channelled through UN agencies in the country, in the form of food, medical services, shelter support, non-food items and actions to prevent the loss of livestock, the statement said.
Floods that swept more than half of Bangladesh killed over 750 people in July and August, left some six million homeless and damaged crops on 700,000 hectares (1.75 million acres).
