Tiruchirapalli, Sep 8 (UNI) The Tiruchirapalli District Administration is fully geared up to meet any exigency during the North-East monsoon, District Collector Ashish Vachhani said.

Talking to newspersons here yesterday, he said about one lakh sandbags had been kept ready by the Public Works Department. All Panchayat Union offices had been asked to stock sand bags so that they could be quickly moved in case of breaches in water bodies.

He had instructed the PWD, Revenue and Development Department officials to maintain a close vigil on tanks and river banks.

Measures should be taken to prevent breaches at vulnerable spots.

Special attention would be paid to areas, which were affected during the 2005-floods. Officials had also been asked to monitor the rainfall level in neighbouring Pudukottai and Karur districts, as the rain waters from these two districts drain here, he added.

The officials would conduct taluk and block-level coordination meetings on disaster management.

Revenue Divisional Officers, Tahsildars, Block Development Officers and Corporation officials had been asked to identify low-lying areas.

The services of the Territorial Army, based in the city, could be requisitioned, he said.
