Russia starts export of navigation equipment for Indian Navy
Moscow, Sep 8 (UNI) A Russian company has started supplying Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) to the Indian Navy, with the first batch of equipment already been shipped.
The contract to supply 139 ECDIS units, made by St Petersburg- based Transas Group (Transport Safety Systems) to the Indian Navy, was signed in 2006 with India, the company's official spokesperson Olga Maximova said.
Transas systems underwent Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), in the presence of representatives from the Indian Navy. The FATs confirmed the ECDIS conformed to the accepted quality&technical standards.
The Indian Navy will now be using Transas' advanced Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS-I. The system includes tools for passage planning, weather routing and calculation. Additional options enable users to customise the system to meet their needs and include multiple operation modes with charts displayed in up to 7 different formats.
Carl-Olof Carlsson, Transas Limited Marketing Director, said the company had won the contract in a tough competition; thanks to its emphasis on the system's exceptional performance and quality of service.
In addition to the delivery, installation and adjusting of its ECDIS equipment, Transas will also train Indian personnel with the help of simulation systems.
