Hizbul, Doda district commander gunned down in encounter

Jammu, Sep 8 (UNI) Hizbul Mujaheddin (HM) district commander Irfan Ahmed was today gunned down by security forces in an encounter at Marmat in Doda district, official sources said.

Acting on a specific information about presence of some Hizbul militants in upper reaches of Marmat, troops of 10 Rashtriya Rifles (RR)and Doda police launched an operation this morning, SSP Doda Manohar Singh said.

During the operation an encounter took place in the afternoon in which Irfan Ahmed was killed. He was the Hizbul Mujaheddin incharge of operations in the region. An AK-47 rifle and one pistol were recovered from him. The operation was still on.

Irfan Ahmed was active since 1993 and was one of the most wanted militants in the region.
