DU to probe sting operation charges

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) The Delhi University will launch an inquiry into the allegations of over spending by DUSU vice president-elect Devraj Talan, a NSUI member, during the election campaign.

A private channel in a sting showed Talan claiming to have spent Rs 15 lakh for the elections, held yesterday, flouting the model code of conduct which fixed the expenditure slab at Rs 10,000 per candidate.

Proctor and Chief Election Officer Gurmeet Singh the probe will be launch soon and action will be taken against whoever is guilty.

''We have decided to hold the inquiry... but no time frame has been set for the same,'' he added.

Prof Singh said the University has asked for the video tapes for the investigation.

''We will get the original CD an get it verified by the police...after that an investigation will be held,'' he added, An Election Monitoring Committee under Dean of Faculty of Law Jaswant Singh will be set up later.

The footage showed Talan claiming that he bought NSUI tickets for Rs 4.8 lakh. Samajwadi Chhatra Sangh Candidate Rishi Raj Meena, candidate for DUSU secretary, was also shown in the footage as part of the sting.
