DK demands fresh legislation on OBC reservation
Tiruchirapalli, Sep 8 (UNI) The Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) today appealed to the Centre to enact a special legislation providing for 27 per cent reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the Centrally-administered educational institutions, in the wake of the Supreme Court stay on the Act passed by the Parliament.
Briefing reporters on the party general council meeting held yesterday here, DK General Secretary K Veeramani said the meeting had adopted a resolution to this effect.
He also demanded promulgation of an Ordinance, providing for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State Legislatures.
The party urged the Centre to ensure protection of life and properties of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka and to send food and drugs for them through the Red Cross.
