CPI demands action against Inspector for 'abusing' labourers
Puducherry, Sep 8 (UNI) CPI Puducherry Unit volunteers along with agricultural labourers, affiliated to the party, today attempted to picket the office of the Inspector General of Police here, demanding action against an inspector, who allegedly abused the labourers at Bahour, while organising picketing at 60 centres on September 5.
Demanding departmental action against Inspector Venkatasamy, the volunteers led by Party Legislators Na Ra Kalainthan and R Viswanathan took out a procession from the Nehru statue.
However, they were stopped by the police at the Goubert statue.
The leaders, however, met the Senior Superintendent of Police Srikanth and submitted a memorandum.
Meanwhile, demanding action against the Inspector, CPI(M) Secretary V Perumal said this was not the first time that Inspector Venkatasamy had indulged in such activites.
He alleged that two 'Irular' youths were ''detained and assaulted'' by the Inspector in May, without any proper reason.
''The same inspector had pointed the revolver at me and threatened to shoot during a CPI(M) agitation in July,'' Mr Perumal claimed.
