85 killed in Raj accident, rescue work complete

Jaipur, Sep 8: At least 85 people were killed when a truck-trailer plunged into a gorge at Daisuri-Ki-Nal in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan.

Rajsamand SP Rupinder Singh while, talking over phone to sources confirmed that 80 people were died on the spot while five people died at the hospital.

He said the rescue operations were complete and the injured have been admitted at the various hospitals.

Mr Singh added that the death toll is likely to go up as some of the injured are said to be in a very serious condition.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 each to the families of those killed and Rs 10,000 to the injured in the accident.

Udaipur Inspector General (IG) of Police Rajeev Dhasot said Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has announced the compensation.

Rajasthan government has ordered Udaipur Divisional Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh to inquire into the accident.

The accident occurred when the driver of the truck-trailer lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn at Daisuri-Ki-Nal. About two hundred people were travelling on the ill-fated trailor which was on way to Ram Devra temple, he said.
