Tripura assembly adjourned over result scam issue

Agartala, Sep 7 (UNI) The Tripura assembly was adjourned for 75 minutes today after the Opposition created pandemonium over the result scam issue in this year's Madhyamik exam.

The entire Opposition demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged manipulation of the result in the exam conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education(TBSE) early this year.

Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath raised the issue after question hour and alleged that more than 10,000 students, including a good number of meritorious candidates, passed Madhyamik this year with average marks.

''Two students who had passed with 272 marks were issued fresh mark sheets afterwards indicating both of them qualified in the second division, though they had not even applied for review of the test papers,'' Mr Nath said.

He also demanded a statement from Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

Finally, Mr Sarkar made a statement and assured the House that the TBSE authority would be asked to inquire into the matter. But this failed to pacify the Opposition members who continued with loud protest forcing the Speaker to adjourn the house till 1400 hours.

Earlier, the Opposition Congress and tribal based Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura demanded extension of the three-day monsoon session, which began today, by at least five days.

They opined that this might be the last session of the 9th Tripura Assembly before the elections only six months away. But the ruling Left Front members turned down the demand through voice vote.
