Lucknow, Sep 7 (UNI) Three newly-elected members of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly were today administered oath at a simple function here.

Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar administered the oath to Mr Anant Kumar Mishra (Farukkhabad), Mr Kazim Ali (Suar Tanda) and Mr Pradip Yadav (Gunnaur) at the Vidhan Bhawan. Even before being elected to the state legislature, Mr Mishra was the Health Minister in the Mayawati government. His election was necessary to help him continue in office.

The three had won the assembly by-polls held on August 31.

The by-polls were necessitated after three Samajwadi Party members vacated their seats. While former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had vacated the Gunnaur seat after being elected from Bharthana, Kazim Ali had left the Suar Tanda seat when he resigned from the SP to join the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Mr Vijay Singh had also resigned from the Farukkhabad seat after he left the SP to join the BSP. But, the BSP later expelled him for having a criminal record.

While Kazim Ali and the Health Minister have helped increase the BSP's tally in the 403-member House to 211, Pradip Yadav has increased the SP's tally in the House to 95.
