Maoists kill two villagers, torch house

Jamshedpur,Sep 7 (UNI) Two persons were killed by the armed Maoists, who raided Digha village near West Bengal-Jharkhand border under Ghatshila police sation area about 60 KM form here last night.

East Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Naveen Kumar Singh said hundreds of armed CPI(Maoist) rebels attacked the village and killed two villagers. One person was also missing.

The rebels set on fire an autorickshaw and torched a house during the attack. The naxalites also beat up several youths suspecting them to be police informers. They cut off the village from outside by felling trees on roads, Mr Singh said.

Police suspected that the naxalites were avenging the arrest of three of their colleagues from the area few days ago.

The senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, rushed to area and the security was intensifed in and around Ghatshila following last night's attack.
