Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury arrested
Kolkata, Sep 7 (UNI) Congress MP from West Bengal's Behrampore constituency Adhir Chowdhury was today arrested minutes after being given bail in a double murder case.
''Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury has been arrested,'' Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told UNI.
The arrest took place at Behrampore in Murshidabad district as Chowdhury was leaving the court after getting bail.
He has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Katwa CPI(M) gram panchayat member in 2003 besides, vandalising the party office there in 2006.
In 2005 he was arrested in connection with the murder case and subsequently released by a lower court for lack of evidence.
On his part, the MP has accused the CPI(M) of conspiracy against him.
Mr Chowdhury's wife and other co-accused have, however, been granted bail by the court.
Meanwhile, Congress workers, protesting against the arrest, put up a blockade before the CJM's court in Behrampore and also several parts of Kolkata, including the Howrah bridge throwing traffic out of gear.
