World-wide launch of diabetes moniter by Bayer
Mumbai, Sep 6 (UNI) Global pharmaceutical giant, Bayer held the world-wide launch of Contour, its new codeless blood glucose monitoring system here today.
Priced at Rs 2,500, it can prove to be of immense use to the 40.9 million strong diabetic patients across the country.
Speaking at the launch, SL Raheja Hospital Professor of Diabetology Dr Pradeep Talwalkar said, ''We have had metres for the past 20-25 years, but this new product is a tremendous relief for the patients.'' ''This innovative technology eliminates errors due to miscoding, which is critical for every person with diabetes, especially those who need to take insulin,'' Bayer Diabetes Care Country Division Head Rakesh Julka added.
Apart from accuracy, the new system also promises to be simple, time-saving and easy-to-use with only eight seconds needed to get a reading.
The kit will be imported from Japan and made available country wide.
Diabetes is an incurable disease which affects 246 million people globally, and has claimed more lives than HIV/AIDS and malaria put together. India with 40.9 million patients holds the dubious title of 'the Diabetes capital of the world.' UNI
