Walia exhorts PWD to complete all projects within target period
New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister A K Walia today called for expediting construction works and ensure completion of projects before the targeted period to enable the city-Government to provide the required infrastructure well before the commencement of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Exhorting Engineer-in-Chief, PWD and other concerned Chief Engineers to expedite various under construction works in the city, Dr Walia, who today inspected Ring Road and seven ongoing projects of flyovers in the Capital, said,''the Delhi Government is committed to dedicate all infrastructure projects to the people at the earliest to ensure relief to vehicular traffic and overcome situation of traffic congestion which is causing hardship to the people.'' Dr. Walia stressed the need of completion of projects within stipulated period to avoid any escalation in cost.
He directed concerned Chief Engineers to regularly monitor the progress of work and submit weekly report to him. Dr. Walia would personally visit the sites of the remaining ten ongoing projects of flyovers soon to assess the ground realities to expedite the work.
Of the 17 flyovers being constructed by PWD in Delhi, Dr Walia today visited seven flyovers at Mukarba Chowk, Azadpur, Mangolpuri, Munirka, JNU, Rao Tula Ram Marg and Naraina.
He observed delay in ongoing construction at JNU, Munirka and Rao Tula Ram Marg.
During the inspection, Dr. Walia expressed his displeasure over the badly maintained road from airport to RTR Marg. This portion of road was accumulated with large quantity of filth apart from number of potholes.
Dr. Walia said he would take up this matter with NHAI and exhort it to ensure proper maintenance because this portion of road was used daily by large number of foreigners and other VIPs.
Dr. Walia also observed traffic congestion at Bhairon Mandir Crossing. He directed E-in-C, PWD to chalk out an action plan for construction of a trumpet and a half bridge on this crossing to make it signal-free as early as possible. Dr. Walia expressed confidence that this would provide much relief to the people who were visiting Pragati Maidan.
