Vedas steal the limelight in Stationery Fair

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) With Indian culture and religion being the flavour of the season in the 13th annual Delhi Book fair, the Stationery fair also keeps up with the trend and incorporates a bit of Indianness into their products.

One such example is 'Vedic cosmos' theme products, part of the 'concept-oriented' stationary available at one of the stalls. These stationery products beautifully blend Vedic scriptures with regular stationery items.

"The idea of 'Vedic cosmos' range is to inform the young generation about ancient Vedas, Indian tradition and culture in such a way that it is not boring and is quick to grasp," says J V Rajan, Regional Manager-Sales of Srinivas Fine Arts (P) Ltd, a leading export company in concept-oriented stationery.

The range combines products for everyday use with the divinely inspired art of G L N Simha whose painting tradition originates from the Vijayanagar Kingdom and has been under the patronage of the Mysore Wodeyar royal family for centuries.

The innovation lies in the graphic communication through utility products like notebooks, diaries, calenders, gift sets, planners etc for each page either contains a scripture or quotations from the vedas.

The prices of the products come heavy on the pockets with one of the diaries, bearing pure silver metal embellishments on its cover and a silver metal book mark, priced as high as Rs 57000.

However, Mr Rajan argues that the price is not an issue with the buyers when it comes to creativity and innovation. "The domestic market is really picking up and people do not mind spending money on something exclusive like our premium collection," he says adding that the sole purpose of participating in the fair is to create awareness of the products among the people.

Of late, more and more export companies which have a strong market hold in countries like US, UK, Dubai, have been showing interest in the domestic market by making their products available on a retail basis in several fairs. This is attributed to the growing economy of the country.
