UP separates crime investigation from routine law and order
Lucknow, sept 6 (UNI) In a bid to reduce the time taken in criminal investigations, the Uttar Praesh government today decided to separate crime investigation from regular policing, including law and order.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati held here.
Principal secretary to the Chief Minister, Shailesh Krishna told reporters that no new posts will be created for the purpose and staff from the present strength of the police force will be deputed for the purpose.
''In phase I, some sub-inspectors at kotwalis (police stations headed by inspectors) will be selected for crime investigation.
Under category A police stations, at least four S-Is, in category B police stations, at least two S-Is and in category C police stations, at least one S-I will be earmarked for crime investigations,'' he said.
He said while no new posts will be created for the purpose, the officers involved with investigations will be kept away from routine policing.
