UP govt to launch 500-crore housing scheme for SC/ST

Lucknow, Sep 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has decided to launch an ambitious 500-crore housing scheme exclusively for shelterless Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families.

Under the scheme, to be executed on the pattern of Indira Awas Yojana has been nomenclatured as 'Anusuchit Jaati Awas Yojana', 1.98 houses would be constructed and will be alloted to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families on priority basis.

A decision to this effect was taken at the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati here yetserday.

The scheme would be entirely state-funded and the UP government would release Rs 250 crore every year towards it, Shailesh Krishna, the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister told reporters here this evening.

All the guidelines of Indira Awas Yojana would be followed in implementation of this scheme.
