Two players appointed as DSP in Haryana

Chandigarh, Sept 6 (UNI) The Haryana Government today appointed Indian women hockey captain Mamta Kharab and all-round cricketer Joginder Sharma as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Haryana Police.

This is the first time that sportspersons have been appointed as DSPs in the state police department. Earlier, sportspersons were recruited in the rank of constable, sub-inspectors or inspectors.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda handed over the appointment letters to Mamta's parents and international cricketer Joginder Singh at a function organised at the Haryana Raj Niwas in Sector 3 here today.

Meanwhile, two players, Indian kabaddi captain and Arjuna awardee Ramesh Kumar and Shamsher Singh, both Sub-Inspectors, were promoted on the spot by the Chief Minister.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the state government would give Rs 10,000 for each goal scored by a Haryana hockey player in an international match. If a Haryana cricketer hits a ton he will be given a cash award of Rs 1 lakh. One who takes one wicket, will get Rs 25,000.

The Chief Minister also announced that the state government would extend full support to the Police Department for building or modernising sports infrastructure of the Haryana police sportspersons.
