'Sack Dr Ramadoss from the Cabinet' : Maneka Gandhi

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) Former Union Minister and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi today asked the Congress to 'sack' Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss for destroying the working of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) through his 'exceedingly disruptive attitude.' In a statement, Ms Gandhi said Dr Ramadoss' refusal to allow the Director of AIIMS to attend the Governing Body with senior doctors was not just 'ridiculous but also childish'.

The Director is the senior member of the Institute's Governing Body, as envisaged in the AIIMS Act of 1956 and the minister had only insulted him consistently. Yesterday's meeting was to discuss the Thorat Commission, a motivated exercise to humiliate the director and senior faculty heads who were there to lend support to technical questions. To insist that the Director enter the meeting alone was 'ridiculous', she said.

Ms Gandhi said it was amazing that the minister had regularly shown his 'immaturity and incompetence' and every scheme of his was 'laughable' in concept and execution.

''All he has done in three years (as a minister) was to destroy the life of its students and use AIIMS funds upto Rs 36 lakh to fight the case against its own Director in Courts. No other minister has had so many strictures passed against him by the Courts,'' she said. The first tenet of a doctor's credential is 'Do no harm,' and that is all he has been doing since he became a minister, Mrs Gandhi added.
