New strategy to contain terrorism successful in Tripura
Agartala, Sep 6 (UNI) The strategy to contain terrorism in Tripura is fructifying, said the state Home department sources.
Data from the Home department said during the last eight months, since the strategy had been adopted by the security forces, a remarkable success had been achieved in reducing the militant activities. During this period only 12 people, both civilians and militants, were killed.
The record said though the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) outifts had carried out about 72 attacks in different locations till August but the casualty was less compared to previous years.
As many as 102 militancy related incidents had taken place in the state last year and the total casualty was 26. In 2005, altogether 115 such incidents were reported in which 41 people died and 62 villagers were kidnapped.
However, this year about 28 civilians, mostly labourers, had been abducted from West and Dhalai districts in the last eight months.
In 2004, about 184 incidents took place in all four districts of the state in which about 101 people were killed and 91 civilians were abducted.
