New face to appear as witness in Phoolan murder case

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) A new face in the Phoolan Devi murder case, who claims to be the sister of the slain bandit-turned-politician and an eyewitness to the incident and also wanted to appear as a witness, has been identified by an investigating officer in a local court.

Phoolan Devi, once an MP from Mirzapur, was murdered on July 25, 2001 near 44 Ashoka Road. Munni Devi's statement could not be recorded due to the continued absence of the investigating officer.

Special Public Prosecutor S K Saxena yesterday assured the court that the investigating officer would certainly appear today.

Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal took the congnizance of Munni Devi's request regarding the police protection and issued summon to Ghaziabad SSP for September 10 and adjourned the matter for recording the statement of Munni Devi for September 13.
