New designers on 'designing block' rule 2nd day at WIFW

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) It was actually 'Paradise found' on the second day of the fashion week with the first of the Hi-5 duo, Drashta Sarvaiya's collection reflecting essence of life through vibrant colours.

It seemed like vibrant colourful butterflies 'Paradiso Fondare' (Paradise Found) ruled the ramp in the form of voluminous gathered dresses with splash of colours ranging from aqua greens to accents in bright warm red and orange.

Amalgamation of soft and harsh, bold and feminine styles put together in harmony and perfectly juxtaposed was a reminiscent of the 80's complete look.

Swirls formed by patch work and embroidery at the centre of dresses and released flounce of fabric creating massive presence left the audience 'breathless'.

Fabrics gathered, pleated combined with streaks of merging colours created a surface that seemed like a picture painted in love.

''I have played with a lot of colours and unique prints in my collection. I have first worked with a painter and then created those images on the fabrics,'' Sarvaiya said talking about the collection.

''My collection draws inspiration from the movie 'Great Expectations' which is very close to my heart,'' the debutant designer added.

On how she plans to match the big names in the industry, a confidant Sarvaiya said, ''I am not competing with anybody here.

My entire focus is on my collection and I am just concerned about that.'' Debutant designer duo Meher and Riddhima succeeded in creating a fascinating effect with their collection which was based on amalgamation of ivory and bright colours.

Titled 'Affascinare' meaning 'to fascinate' in Italian, the collection was inspired by architecture and art, among other influences and maintains a balance between geometric and organic designs by creating a dramatic effect through the interplay of patchwork in different shapes and cord detailing.

The Hi-5 duo is a special initiative of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) that provides upcoming fashion designers a platform to showcase their collection on the ramp during the ongoing fashion extravaganza.

This year, instead of the customary five, ten young designers are making their debut on the ramp during the fashion fete.

The ten designers who are part of the Hi-5 duo initiative are Abhijeet Khanna, Ashish, Viral&Vikrant, Drashta Sarvaiya, Elisha W, Gauri Bajoria, Meher Mirchandani and Riddima, Prashant Verma, Priya and Chintans, Shubhra and Varun Sardana.
