Musharraf's counsel says he will continue as Prez until Nov 15
Islamabad, Sep 6 (UNI) A statement filed on behalf of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in the Supreme Court today may have far-reaching implications on the murky politics of Pakistan.
Pakistan's top lawyer and counsel for Gen Musharraf filed a statement in the Supeme Court today, which says the military ruler would continue to hold dual offices till his successor takes over after November 15.
''It may be mentioned that under article 34 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan, it is provided that the President shall, notwithstanding expiration of his term, would continue to hold office until his successor enters his office,'' the statement by Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada said.
The Jamat Islami has challenged Gen Musharraf holding the dual offices in the Supreme Court.

seven-member
bench,
headed
by
Chief
Justice
Iftikkar
Mohammed
Chaudhry,
will
hear
the
case
on
September
17.
The
apex
court
has
asked
top
lawyers
of
the
country,
including
Mr
P
M
Zafar,
Mr
Abdul
Hafeez
Peerzada
and
Mr
Intezad
Ahmed,
to
assist
the
court
in
view
of
the
importance
of
the
petition.
They
will
act
as
''The
Friends
of
The
Court.''
