Militant hideout busted, tragedy averted in J&K

Srinagar, Sep 6 (UNI) Militants attacked a joint search party of security forces and police, while one hideout was busted and a major tragedy averted in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesman said militants attacked a joint search party at village Chandigam, Sogam, in the frontier district of Kupwara. Security forces retaliated and the encounter continued for some time. However, the militants managed to escape.

Besides, police and security forces busted a militant hideout in village Kot Behrote under police station Thanamandi and recovered 2 hand grenades, 1 AK magazine and 24 AK rounds. However, no one was arrested.

An alert farmer today averted a major tragedy when he detected an explosive device in his field at Magam, Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara.

A police spokesman said Ghulam Mohammad Lone immediately informed police after he saw the device in his field.

Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of state police defused it without causing any damage.
