Kingpin of inter-state criminal gang nabbed

Phagwara, Sept 6 (UNI) Phagwara Police today bust an inter-state gang of robbers and killers with the arrest of its kingpin Sukhbir alias Bobby with some arm and ammunition.

DSP HPS Khakh told UNI that the accused was nabbed along with his motorcycle near village Sahni in Phagwara sub-division during a nakabandi and a countrymade pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

The DSP said that the accused told police during police interrogation that his gang had looted more than Rs 18 lakh from various places including from some banks in rural Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and were involved in many violent crimes.

The gang had shot dead a money-exchanger in Chadha Market here and a bank manager in Himachal Pradesh.

The DSP told that two members of this gang Pargan Singh and Harminder Singh were arrested by Phagwara police in August last year but Sukhbir managed to escape then and was declared proclaimed offender in different criminal cases of Punjab and Himachal Pardesh.

DSP Khakh told that the accused was produced before judicial magistrate Phagwara who sent him in one-day police remand for further interrogation.
