Bangalore, Sep 6 (UNI) With the improvement in the supply of skilled manpower, Nasscom today said IT and BPO sectors would see moderation of wages from next year.

Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of the 'Nasscom Quality Summit' here, Nasscom Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan said the intent of the industry was moderation of the wages which had gone up by 12 to 15 per cent across major IT and BPO industry during the last three years.

''Manpower supply has improved to a satisfactory level due to various governmental and industry initiatives. The academic institutions have also made big strides in taking proactive academic initiatives like starting IT finishing schools and creating more seats. This has helped the industry immensely,'' he said.

He said in Tamil Nadu alone 10,000 engineering seats had gone vacant this year, this was because that state had created huge number of new capacity in the engineering colleges.

Talent and workforce development would lead to moderation of wages in IT and BPO industry and this would happen from next year itself, he said.

Mr Narayanan, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of BPO giant Cognizant, said the threat of recession in the US and hardening of the Rupee against the Dollar had not much impact on the BPO industry yet and it was inspired a little more than the IT industry.

''We have beaten our guidance handsomely this year and we don't see the recession threat now. The Indian BPO sector has succeeded in creating a great deal of confidence in its customers,'' he said.
