HP to revive Handicraft and handloom Corporation

Shimla, Sep 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his Government will revive the State Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation keeping in view its importance in reviving of the traditional art and craft of the State.

Reviewing the possibilities of reviving the Corporation, here last evening, he said his government was keen to keep the traditional art and craft of the State alive and would make concerted efforts to pass on the same to the coming generations.

Mr Singh said Himachal was rich in art and craft which was enriching the world since time immemorial. He said that being hilly State, the artisans had been contributing towards the preservation of the art.

The State government had constituted the Corporation decades ago with a view to promote the art and craft of the State and generate employment and self employment avenues to the rural artisans.

The Chief Minister said that the Corporation had been imparting training to the artisans in wood work, metal work, traditional handicrafts and handlooms by organizing training camps in the rural areas.

The State was known for its distinct tribal art, shawls, Chamba Handkerchief and above all Kangra Paintings. Besides playing significant role in revival of the traditional art and craft.
