HC directs Arunachal to inquire flood scam

Itanagar, Sep 6: The Itanagar bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed the Arunachal Pradesh government to recover the compensation from the officials, who were involved in the food-relief scam during the 1997 flood in East Siang district.

The court also ordered an inquiry into scam within six months from the date of verdict.

The state government had sanctioned financial assistance of over Rs two crore to 202 flood-affected people of Mebo sub-division during 1997-99, but they were paid only Rs 2000 each.

However, the state government was forced to initiate departmental proceedings against the alleged officers for their failure to provide fiancial help to the flood victims.
