Ganesh mandals in Mumbai to get power at low rates

Mumbai, Sep 6 (UNI) In a step aimed at checking power thefts during Ganeshotsav in the city, the Brihanmumbai Electric and Supply Transport Undertaking (BEST) has decided to supply power at lower tariffs to the ''mandals'' in the city.

Speaking to reporters, BEST Deputy General Manager Y S Puranik said that this year they have decided to supply power to the ''mandals'' at Rs 2.70 per unit instead of Rs 4 per unit.

''We hope that this step would result in curbing the power theft in the hundreds of mandals which use power,'' he added.

The Undertaking is also sending its representatives to the ''mandals'' for signing an agreement with the BEST, so that more and more organisations use power at subsidised rates.

During the festival, BEST provides temporary electricity connections to the organisers in the metropolis.
