Eight youths booked for attempt to rape

Fatehgarh Sahib, Sept 6 (UNI) The Mandi Gobindgarh police have booked 8 youths for alleged attempt to abduct and rape a 23-year-old woman, when she and her husband were returning home after attending late night Janmanstami celebrations.

According sources, the woman and her husband Naresh Kumar were returning on foot to their house at village Ajnali near Mandi Gobindgarh around midnight from the temple when the couple was attcked by the gang near old Radhaswami Bhawan on G.T.Road.

The youths who were hiding in bushes, jumped out and dragged the woman into bushes and began molesting her while some of them caught the woman's husband.

Sources said that the youth later tried to abduct the woman on a scooter but when the couple raised alarm, passerby assembled there and they fled from there.

The youths were later identified as Lakhbir Singh, Chindu alias Lovely, Pal Singh, Mountu, Manpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh, Hardeep Singh and Rahul. Lakhbir Singh was notorious for eve-teasing in the area, sources said.

After registering case under sections 376,365,354,341,511,120-B of the IPC, the police has started investigations.
