Customs officials seized USD 10,000 from two air travellers

Chennai, Sep 06 (UNI) Customs officials at the Anna International airport here have seized unaccounted currency of 10,000 US dollars from two people, bound for Malaysia, and imposed a fine on them.

Airport sources said the duo Amar Kumar (40) and Naveen Kumar (34) were about to board a Malaysian Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur around 2330 hrs last night when the customs officials effected the seizure and cancelled their journey.

Since the duo could not give proper account for the money, as per the rules, the customs authorities seized 50 per cent of the amount and imposed a ten per cent fine on the remaining amount.

The two would leave for Kuala Lumpur tonight.
