Congress refutes Naidu's charge on education sector

Hyderabad, Sep 6 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today refuted Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu's charges that the state government had neglected the education sector in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, APCC official spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said Mr Naidu was levelling allegations against the Chief Minister and the government without verifying the facts.

He also refuted Mr Naidu's charge that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had not participated in the Teachers Day celebrations.

Stating that the government had given top priority to the education sector, he said the government had increased the budgetory allocation to the education sector from Rs 4,393.19 crore to Rs 7,842.11 crore during 2007-08 to provide quality education in the state.

He said the government had appointed 60,000 'Vidya' volunteers and provided infrastructure, worth Rs 303 crore, in government schools.

The government had regularised 12,000 'Vidya' volunteers and appointed 16,000 persons to teacher posts in 2005, he added.
