Concession Agreement on Hassan Airport was signed

Bangalore, Sep 6 (UNI) Karnataka government today signed Concession Agreement with Jupiter Aviation and Logistics Private Ltd for the proposed Rs 600 crore world-class civilian Airport and pilots training Institute at Hassan here.

The agreement was signed between Mr Sudhir Krishna, Principal secretary Public Works Department (PWD) and Mr Ravinarayanan, CEO and MR of Jupiter Aviation and Logistics Limited, consultants for the proposed Hassan Greenfield Airport and exchanged documents.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Ravinarayanan said proposed Airport planned to build at Hassan was expected to become operational from April 2009. "The trial run of landing of aircraft would take place at the end of December 2008" he said.

Revealing the salient feature of the proposed airport at Hassan He said that the main centre of activities of the Airport would be of Pilot training as it would become country's largest training centre. "All the supporting infrastructure would be built to train over 600 candidates for Pilot training in the 960 acres of area".

The Airport which would have the largest run-way in the entire South India can accommodate even the 800-seater Airbus A-380, the largest capacity and largest range aircraft in the world, he said.

Mr Ravinarayanan also informed that with the coming up the Airport it was also expected to attract about Rs 3000 crore investment in and around the Airport which also could handle about 60000 tonnes of cargo annually. The Airport was also expected to generate over 10000 new jobs besides giving impetus to set-off economic activities in the entire region, he said.

Mr Sudhir Krishna, who also spoke on the occasion said the government has acquired over 500 acres of land for the proposed Airport and has taken initiative to hand-over the rest of the required land shortly. "There would be no displacement with the acquisition of additional land". The union ministry of forest and environment also had to clear its approval for the additional land of over 440 acres, he said.
