Comphrenhensive rehab plan for Angul oustees soon: Samal

Talcher, Sep 6(UNI) Orissa Revenue Minister Manmohan Samal today said a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the oustees of MCL, NTPC and NALCO in Angul district will be formulated soon.

Addressing a function to mark the Prajamandal diwas at Kaniha, Mr Samal said his government would ensure that the oustees were placed in a better living standard during the post-displacement.

He also announced that all the blocks in the state will have a full-fledged tehsil by 2008. A tehsil at Kaniha would also be set up soon, he added.

It may be noted that Prajamandal movement at Kaniha was one of the historic freedom movements against kingship and British.

Thousands of people from Kaniha and Talcher were imprisoned and several deserted their homes then due to British crackdown.

The Police arrested 51 Congress members before the arrival of the minister as they were protesting against the non-inclusion of Angul Zilla Parishad Chief in the guest list.

The agitated Congress workers staged a protest by sitting in dharana on the spot. They later celebrated the function at NTPC Police station where Zilla parishad chief presided over the meeting as the Chief guest.
