BSNL-MTNL merger put on hold

New Delhi, Sep 6: The Government today said the merger between state-owned telecom PSUs BSNL and MTNL have been put on hold, as the enabling conditions for the suggested options are not appropriate enough to lead to a ''successful merger''.

A consortium of consultants led by ICICI Securities, appointed by the government to advise and aid the government in restructuring of MTNL and BSNL for achieving higher synergies in their operations, has suggested some options for restructuring, Minister of State for Commuications and IT Shakeel Ahmad said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
