ATVMs yet to be installed at stations

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) are yet to be installed on stations for disbursing journey tickets, but Platform Ticket Vending Machines have become functional at some stations, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Railways R.Velu said Platform Ticket Vending Machines had become functional at eight stations.

These are Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bangalore city, Bangalore Cantt., Mysore, Yeshwantpur and Krishnarajpuram stations.

Mr Velu said the Railways had sanctioned around 6000 ATVMs at 1400 locations, which would be installed through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, subject to the successful implementation of pilot project.

Replying to another query, he said the pilot project for installation of 300 smart card-based ATVMs in suburban stations of Central and Western Railways in Mumbai area would be undertaken by the end of the this year.

Mr Velu also said cyber cafes had so far been set up at 24 stations, including Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Lucknow, Bangalore, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Mumbai Central, Coimbatore, Mysore, Ernakulam, Nagpur, Gorakhpur, New Delhi, Pune, Howrah, Puri, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Secunderabad and Vijayawada.

He said seven more cyber cafes at Ajmer, Amritsar, Chennai Central, Patna, Sambalpur, Surat and Tirchy would be set up during the current financial year.
