AP: Abducted boy reunited with parents

Khammam (Andhra Pradesh), Sep 6: Four-year-old Rohit, who was allegedly kidnapped from his school by two unidentified persons on Tuesday, returned to his mothers lap after 30 hours of high drama.

When Rohit did not return home, his mother Lalasa informed the matter to the police, who on inquiry learnt that the boy was picked up from the school by two people. Immediately, search parties were formed to trace the boy and the abductors.

Police were perplexed as no ransom note or phone call had come from the kidnappers as the father and mother of the boy were well placed software professionals and residing in posh Madhapur area of the city.

Media flashed the photograph of the boy and some TV channels gave hourly bulletin about the kidnap and the photograph of the boy.

Several phone calls were received that the boy was seen in Kurnool and Khammam districts, which proved to be hoax.

Last night, two persons travelling in a vehicle with a boy were held up in Tekulapally village of Khammam district as one of the tyre of the car got punctured.

The two handed over the boy to one Ravinder and asked him to keep the boy for a while. However, the duo sped away in the car after carrying out the puncture. Ravinder, who waited for few hours for the kidnappers to return suddenly doubted the boy could be Rohit, whose photograph was being regularly flashed on the TV channels.

When he touched the boy he was running a high temperature.

Ravinder called his friend Venugopal and the two took the boy to a doctor, who administered an injection to bring the temperature under control.

Later, Ravinder informed Police Inspector Janardhan that the boy left with him appeared to be Rohit. The Inspector, who reached the spot identified the boy and called up Rohit's parents and asked them for identification marks. The policeman called them again after five minutes confirming that the boy in their custody was Rohit.

Rohit's parents reached Khammam, where the boy was kept in the custody of the Superintendent of Police D S Chauhan, who provided treatment to the boy at the police headquarters.

Rohit's mother Lalasa and his father Ravinder Reddy, who were overwhelmed with joy hugged the boy. After narrating the incident to mediapersons, they left for Hyderabad.

The District Superintendent of Police Chauhan told mediapersons that efforts were on to nab the kidnappers based on the information given by Ravinder.

Mr Chauhan expressed confidence that the abductors would be arrested soon.

Police have swung into action and checking every vehicle leaving Khammam.
