UP govt issues fresh norms for use of beacons

Lucknow, Sep 5 (UNI) Taking a stern view of the misuse of red/blue beacons, black screens and sirens/hooters on vehicles, the Mayawati government tonight issued fresh directives in this regard.

Principal Secretary (Transport) Pradeep Shukla said Governor, Chief Minister, former CM, Council Chairperson, Assembly Speaker, HC Chief Justice, HC Judges, Lokayukta, Leaders of Opposition in the Council and Assembly would use red beacons with flashers.

Council Vice-Chairperson, Assembly Vice-President, State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary, Revenue Board President, IG, State Election Commissioner, Public Service Commission President and District Judges would use red beacons without flashers.

The BSP government has cleared that red beacons/flashers can only be used while at duty anywhere in the state. While on tour to UP, other state officers would be given a red beacon facility.

Mr Shukla informed Industrial Development Commissioner, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Principal Secretary (Home), Divisional Commissioner, IG, DIG, DM, District Police head, CMO, ADM, City Magistrate, Pargana Magistrate, station in charge, ASP, circle officer, Excise and Trade Tax officers, Chief Judicial Magistrate, DGP, ADGP would use blue beacons with flashers.

However, Ambulence, fire brigade, patrolling vehicles can use red/blue/white beacons with hooters.

Police sleuths stationed in the CM and Governor escort, forest officers, Trade Tax and Excise officers can use hooters and sirens.
