Teachers boycott Teachers' Day function

Kolhapur, Sep 5 (UNI) Teachers today boycotted the Teachers Day function, organised by Primary Education Municipal School Board, and staged a demonstration to press their long-pending demands here.

The teachers' demands include early payment of unpaid arrears as per the 5th Pay Commission, which have been pending despite government order as well as court ruling.

The demonstration was organised by the Maharashtra State Primary Teachers' Samiti and was led by Samiti's leader Prabhakar Arade.

Four teachers, selected for Teachers award, registred their protest by refusing to accept the award at the function.

At another function organised by Kolhapur Zilla Parishad, Maharashtra School Education Minister Hassan Mushrif honoured selected teachers with awards.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the state government will make a budgetary provision of Rs 1,000 crore per year to fulfil its responsibility towards primary education.
