New Delhi, Sept 5: Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland today said its Dubai plant will go on stream by February 2008 and will initially produce 2,000 buses.

''We have made an initial investment of Rs 50 crore in the first phase of the Dubai plant,'' said company Managing Director R Seshasayee.

The plant will initially produce about 2,000 buses, the spare parts of which will be imported, he added. The plant will be used for producing bus chassis and body-building.

Ashok Leyland had earlier announced an investment of Rs 550 crore for setting up a manufacturing base and capacity building in Dubai for exports.

The Dubai plant will increase the production capacity of the company from 77,000 units to one lakh units. The plant will target emerging markets like West Asia and North and West Africa, which are important emerging markets, according to the company.
