One held over rape-murder

Sirsi, Sept 4 (UNI) Uttara Kannada district police arrested one person in connection with the rape and murder of a college girl, yesterday.

Informing this to media here today, Superintendent of Police N Shivaprasad said Suresh Honnappa Nayak (31) of Sannalli near here had confessed to the rape and murder of Vatsala Kamalakar Hegde, a first year B Com student from Kalmane village.

She was returning home after classes on August 17, when the accused attacked her from behind, before committing the crime.

Nayak was also allegedly involved in another rape attempt case, about 20 days back, which was undermined by the police.
