Man lynched after toddler found murdered in UP capital

Lucknow, Sep 4: A man was lynched by a mob in the Pandey Ganj area of the state capital after a two-and-a-half year old girl was found murdered in his house.

Police said the body of the girl missing since this morning, was found at the house of one Shiv Mohan with her throat slit. An angry mob then beat up the accused, who later died on way to hospital.

DIG (Lucknow range) Chandra Prakash said here that the girl's parents received a phone call around 0830 hrs that their daughter would return home by 1000 hrs. The person who made the call from a PCO was soon traced by the residents, who mercilessly beat him up. He later succumbed to injuries.

''Prima facie it seems a case of murder rape could only be confirmed after post-mortem,'' the DIG said.

Shiv Mohan, facing charges in a rape case, was recently released from jail on bail. He lived in a house nearby.

The residents found the body of the girl wrapped in a piece of cloth with her throat slit.

Tension prevailed in the area after the incident even as a large posses of police was deployed in the area. Senior police officers, including IG (Lucknow zone) A K Jain have reached the spot to pacify the mob.
