KPT creates history handling container

Kolkata, Sep 4 (UNI) Kolkata Dock System (KDS) of the Port has created history during August by handling 27,562 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

Kolkata Port Trust (KPT) chairman Dr A K Chanda said today that by handling 27,562 TEUs in one month (August 2007), the city dock has set an all time record handling of container traffic, surpassing its previous record of 25,913 TEUs handled in May this year.

In comparison to the container traffic of 21,309 TEUs handled in August last year, the KDS registered a growth of 29.34 per cent during August this year and was highest among all Indian major container handling ports, Dr Chanda claimed.
