Hurricane Henriette heads for Mexico's Los Cabos

LOS CABOS, Mexico, Sep 4 (Reuters) Hurricane Henriette formed off Mexico's Pacific coast today and bore down on the beach and golf resort of Los Cabos at the tip of the Baja California peninsula.

At Category 1 strength, Henriette was the weakest type of hurricane and carried maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. It killed six people last weekend when it dumped rain on Acapulco as a tropical storm.

Forecasters see it touching land by today afternoon near Los Cabos, which is frequented by US golfers and other tourists, before barreling into the Sea of Cortez toward Mexico's mainland.

Heavy rains and wind gusts lashed the resort overnight.

Boats were ordered not to leave port, with sleek million dollar yachts advised to secure their moorings.

In the Caribbean, another hurricane, Felix, slammed into Nicaragua and Honduras. That was a potentially catastrophic Category 5 storm.
