Danish security police say arrest 8 in terror plot

COPENHAGEN, Sep 4 (Reuters) Danish security police today said they had arrested eight young Muslims they said were plotting a terrorist attack and had ties to Al Qaeda.

''These are militant Islamists with connections to high-ranking members of Al Qaeda,'' an official with the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) told a news conference.

When asked about the target of the attack and which country it was planned for, he declined to comment.

The official said that through the arrests, the PET believed they had prevented an act of terror.
