Celebrations mark Lord Krishna's birth anniv
Mumbai/Srinagar, Sept 4: Grand celebrations marking Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, have kicked off in different parts of the country.
Victoria Memorial Blind School students participated in the 'Dahi Handi' competition, which is an intrinsic part of the festival.
The celebrations were organised by an NGO.
'Dahi Handi' is one of the most awaited ceremonies in the region, where young boys climb on each other to form a human pyramid and the boy at the top breaks a clay pot filled with curd.
Meanwhile, in Kashmir Valley, a Janmashtami procession was taken out by Kashmiri Pandits in Srinagar after 18 years. The procession started from the Ganpatyar Temple in the city's old quarters, went to the Durga Naag Temple and passed through Lal Chowk.
